Couteges (Costoja)
| A former border village between France and Spain in the Pyrenees, approximately 45 km from Figueres. The village is dominated by the church from the XI / XII century. The last minister living in the village officiated until 1940. | |
| At the end of the civil war the republicans fled over the Pyrenees to France. Costoja was their first stopping place in France. On some days 50,000 republicans arrived in Costoja. |
| In the small cemetery rest a large number of those who died during and immediately after the civil war. |

There is a post office and a city hall.
To
visit Costoja, drive north from Figueres toward La Jonquera. Turn to Maçanet de
Cabrenys, and continue through Darnius and eventually passing through Tapis to
Costoja. There is a bar and grocer's shop. The route along the Pyrenees makes
the trip all the more enjoyable.
